Dance the day away
Forget Notting Hill, Croydon Carnival promises just as many feathers and sequins, a star-studded line up of performances and a party atmosphere. For the first time since the event was established in 2018, the carnival will parade through Croydon’s centre to its London Road base, where garage legends Artful Dodger headline the main stage.
Sunday 30 July, Croydon town centre
Enjoy the great outdoors
Shake off the city and head to one of Croydon’s many parks and green spaces this summer. Enjoy a relaxing picnic with friends in Wandle Park, with its café and children’s playground, or let your dog stretch their legs in the wide, open spaces of Lloyd Park. Nature lovers should head to the wildflower meadows and wetlands of South Norwood Country Park, while just a short train ride away, Crystal Palace Park is home to a famous family of dinosaur sculptures, a city farm and a boating lake.
Get on the art trail
Have fun trying to spot 30 giant and little giraffe sculptures hidden across Croydon town centre as part of the Croydon Stands Tall art trail. The colourful giraffes have been decorated by schools, communities and local artists including Alec Saunders, Aaron Bevan and Nicole Lane. Available for 10-weeks from 21 August, use the bespoke map and mobile app to navigate the trail, discovering Croydon’s hidden gems as you go. It will even unlock exclusive rewards and discounts from local retailers.
